After taking wheatgrass for several weeks, I did a blood test and the results showed that my haemoglobin level was a very high 190 g/L. So I've had to stop taking it whilst my doctor rules out other reasons for the high level. I was wondering if it is possible for wheatgrass to cause this reaction??

Anything is possible, but it is not likely. Look to this article for some ideas: http://www.steadyhealth.com/articles...toms_a194.html
The reason this isn't likely is because the juice is a food not a drug. The concentrations of each nutrient are low and also broad spectrum. Changes really are orchestrated by the body and the juice just provides the resources. For the most part, it is a product of normalization and moderation rather than one that causes extremes. That means that you see people with high levels of all kinds of things go down to normal and people with low levels increase to normal. All that said, I think removing anything you suspect of creating an issue is a good diagnostic step and look forward to an update when you are ready. |
