Does anyone know the physical side effects & dangers of ingesting the mold on indoor-grown wheatgrass? I only learned of this mold last thurday after doing double shots of wheatgrass on weds & thurs. I've had headaches, chest pains and my lungs feel heavy. I'm really tired too. I googled 'headaches & wheatgrass' last Thurs night and I found this forum and site. I've done wheatgrass for yrs but have never had this reaction before. I'm in final stages of recovery from a near fatal accident 3.5 yrs ago and so my system is weak at times. Is mold dangerous to ones health in the dose I took? Thanks

There is a big problem in trying to understand what just happened. Mold / fungi release something called mycotoxins and there are over 400 of them. They are very unusual because different people can have radically different responses to the same contaminated product. The reactions range from no adverse response whatsoever to sometimes a very severe response. You can read more about mycotoxins here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mycotoxins I can't possibly tell you to do anything but consult your physician as it sounds like you have had a severe reaction. In some cases, these problems may take some time to clear your system. As an example, here is another message from someone who also had a severe reaction to someone else's juice. You can read more here: http://www.dynamicgreens.com/wheatgr...read.php?t=126 I hope this passes through your system quickly. For this information of the casual reader...in our experience, it is essential that wheatgrass be grown outdoors during natural growing seasons. Mother nature seems to have it all figured out and mold simply does not become an issue in a low density outdoor crop.
